Moving and Handling People
A course that is designed specifically for those people who are working within the field of care and have responsibility for moving people.
The key aim of the course is to highlight awareness of the problems and potential for injury that can be caused by manual handling operations and moving and handling of people, whilst also covering the legal requirements regarding the handling of people.

Legislation
Employers Must:
- Avoid hazardous manual handling wherever reasonably practicable.
- Assess any hazardous activities where manual handling cannot be avoided.
- Reduce the risk of injury to the lowest level reasonably practicable.
- Review risk assessments where appropriate.
Employees Must:
- Use all systems of work their employer has put in place, including making proper use of equipment provided.
Aims and Expected Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course the learner shall:
- Understand how current legislation affects them as an employee, and how it affects their employer
- Understand their vulnerability to Manual Handling injuries
- Understand the structure and workings of the spine with relation to the ways in which the learner conducts Manual Handling tasks, and be better able to avoid back injuries caused by poor posture and inefficient movement
- Understand commonly used 'controversial techniques'
- Be able to demonstrate their ability to move and handle clients using only safer handling techniques
